We know that audits can be daunting. Sifting through pages, accounts, numbers, and defining strategy… OH MY! But, there is nothing spookier than posting and ghosting. So, if you haven’t been evaluating your social media at least twice a year, we suggest bi-monthly, you need to keep reading and follow these simple steps to get your digital strategy back on target.
Make a List
List all of your social media platforms with login information (yes, even old ones). It’s a great place to start, especially when onboarding new people or when working with outside sources to see where all your brand shows up on social. Especially, for those platforms you might not post on regularly or set up for a one-time use.
Pro Tip: Use KnowEm to check for old platforms.
Remove Old Accounts
We know it’s crucial to own a space on social channels because if you aren’t having the conversation, someone else is, and you don’t want your brand damaged by an empty or old platform. One, it could have outdated information that is turning away followers or buyers. Two, if you aren’t active on the account followers/buyers will presume you’re business is no longer around.
Check for Consistency
As digital nerds, we can’t tell you how many times we come across inconsistencies in social accounts. It’s key to have matching profile pictures, names, colors, fonts, and cover photos where appropriate. You want to make it easy for someone looking for your brand on any platform to easily recognize you.
Check for Quality
Double. No, triple-check that all your platform profiles are complete and that the quality of content on each platform is in line with your brand standards, values, and strategy. If it’s not relevant, brings value, or is done right, you’re bound to turn away potential consumers.
Measure Results
We know numbers can be scary, but trust us when we say they’re worth diving into to make sure your digital strategy is working. List all the metrics used to evaluate your results for each platform (ex: likes, shares, clicks, views, mentions, etc.). It will help you determine which post times performed best and what type of content is grabbing your audience’s attention. Then, compare the results to the cost spent on post type and adjust your strategy appropriately.
Analyze Competition
Look at 3-5 of your favorite influencers, brands, or competition. Note what you like and don’t like about their feed. Compare what content is getting the most engagement and brainstorm how you can bring your unique flare into that conversation.
Pro Tip: For SEO audits and mentions, you can use tools like Hootsuite, Sprout Social, HubSpot, and SemRush.
